What the Result Means

On the list

A listed medicine placed on the market for UK patients cannot be exported, whether it is licensed or unlicensed in the destination country. A named-patient import route does not lift the restriction.

Not on the list

DHSC does not restrict the medicine today. We still confirm availability, the current list position and whether the product falls within what we supply before we quote.

Other UK export controls

Controlled drugs need Home Office licences. Medicines containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine are Category 4 drug precursors, so each export needs a Home Office authorisation. Euro Biom does not supply either group.

Common Questions
What is the UK export restriction list?
It is the DHSC list of medicines that cannot be exported from the UK or hoarded, because they are needed to meet the needs of UK patients. A medicine is added where DHSC finds a critical shortage, or a risk of one, that export would contribute to.
How often is this checker updated?
We check the gov.uk list every week and update this page when it changes. The list date is shown at the top of the page. DHSC can change the list at any time, so we confirm the position for each line again before we quote.
Does an entry cover every form of a medicine?
Not always. Each entry states the strengths and forms it covers. Levothyroxine, for example, is listed for tablets only. DHSC guidance says a single-ingredient entry does not cover medicines with several active ingredients unless they are listed.
Are there exceptions to the restrictions?
The DHSC guidance sets out limited exceptions, including crown dependencies and overseas territories, medicines made for markets abroad, international humanitarian organisations, and clinical trials and other research. We assess any exception case by case.
What can I do if the medicine I need is restricted?
Ask us whether a UK-licensed alternative that is not restricted exists. Your clinicians decide whether it is suitable. Our guide to UK export restrictions covers the options in more detail.
Does a clear result mean you can supply it?
No. It means DHSC does not list the medicine. Euro Biom supplies UK-licensed medicines only, and does not supply vaccines, biologics, biosimilars, insulin, blood products or controlled drugs. Availability is confirmed with each quote.
