What We Can Supply to Sponsors
Commercially packed UK-licensed
comparators and ancillaries.

Euro Biom sources UK-licensed comparator medicines used in clinical research. We quote against the precise specification, quantity and timeline you submit.

Our scope covers UK-licensed branded comparators and Reference Listed Drugs (RLDs) for active-control arms, and ancillary trial supplies such as rescue medications, standard-of-care drugs and supportive medications required by the protocol.

We do not act as the sponsor, manufacturer or contract packaging organisation. We are the licensed wholesale dealer that locates verified product, secures it, documents it to GDP standards and supplies it to a recipient lawfully able to receive it, such as the sponsor's MIA(IMP) holder, a hospital pharmacy or a licensed importer.

UK-Licensed Comparators Comparators & RLDs Ancillary Supplies
"Trial supply fails when sourcing is treated as procurement. It succeeds when it is treated as a regulated, traceable, documented chain. That is what an MHRA WDA delivers."
Who This Is For
Sponsors, CROs and Clinical
Research Institutions

Clinical trial supply is a small, specialised market. These are the buyers we can supply.

Pharma Sponsors
Pharmaceutical companies running their own trials, from biotech start-ups testing a single asset to mid-size sponsors managing portfolios across multiple therapeutic areas.
Contract Research Organisations
CROs delivering full-service or functional sourcing on behalf of sponsors. We can work with your supply lead and regulatory team.
Academic Research Sites
University-led investigator-initiated trials and academic medical centres requiring small-volume, brand-specific comparators or hard-to-source reference products.
Hospital Trial Units
NHS Clinical Research Facilities and international hospital research units running early-phase studies and needing rapid, compliant access to specific medicinal products.
Regulatory Framework

The authorisations that
make trial supply defensible.

Clinical trial sourcing involves layered regulatory obligations. Euro Biom holds the wholesale licensing required and works within the trial-specific authorisations held by the sponsor or CRO.

MHRA Wholesale Dealer Authorisation

Euro Biom holds WDA(H) 59239, granted by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. This authorisation covers procurement, supply and export of UK-licensed medicinal products, including those used as comparators in clinical trials. Publicly verifiable on the MHRA register.

UK Good Distribution Practice

Euro Biom's GDP quality system covers procurement, supply and export, with chain-of-custody records from the authorised supplier through to delivery. Storage and handling are carried out by the contract storage site under its own licence.

Documented chain-of-custody records

UK and EU Clinical Trial Regulation Alignment

Sponsors and CROs hold the Clinical Trial Authorisations and operate under MHRA frameworks, EU Clinical Trials Regulation 536/2014 and, where applicable, US FDA IND requirements. Our role is to source and supply within those frameworks, and to provide the supply documents the sponsor needs for its submissions and inspections.

Documentation to support sponsor regulatory needs

Supply to the Sponsor's Licensed Packager

Where blinded supply, over-encapsulation, label translation or matched-placebo coordination is required, we supply the comparator to the sponsor's nominated MHRA MIA(IMP)-licensed packaging or manufacturing partner. Euro Biom remains the wholesale supplier of the UK-licensed product; the licensed manufacturer handles any physical reconfiguration.

How It Works
From Sourcing Brief
to Licensed Recipient

A four-step process designed for the documentation, traceability and timing demands of regulated clinical research.

Step 01
01
Feasibility and Specification
You send the protocol-driven specification: product, brand or RLD, strength, dosage form, batch and shelf-life requirements, quantity per site, total study volume and target dates. We confirm feasibility within the working day.
Step 02
02
Sourcing and Verification
We identify UK marketing authorisation holders or licensed UK wholesalers, verify product provenance, confirm batch availability, check expiry dating against your trial duration and provide a written quotation.
Step 03
03
Handover to the Sponsor's MIA(IMP) Holder
Where the protocol requires blinded over-encapsulation, randomised kit assembly or trial-specific labelling, we deliver the comparator to the sponsor's nominated MHRA MIA(IMP)-licensed packaging partner. You retain control of randomisation schedules and label content.
Step 04
04
Distribution and Documentation
Product is shipped to the sponsor's nominated licensed recipient via specialist carriers, in temperature-controlled packaging where needed, with UK export documents for international destinations.
Therapeutic Areas We Cover
Trial Supply
by Research Category

Comparator requirements arise across every therapeutic area. Euro Biom can source commercially packed UK-licensed medicines, as marketed, in each of the following.

Oncology
Cytotoxics, oral targeted therapies, supportive care drugs and rescue medications.
Rare and Orphan Disease
Sourcing of low-volume, UK-licensed medicines used as comparators in rare disease trials, where commercially available.
Cardiovascular
Anticoagulants, anti-arrhythmics, antihypertensives and lipid-modifying therapies frequently used as active controls in cardiovascular outcomes trials.
Paediatric Trials
Age-appropriate UK-licensed formulations and paediatric strengths.
CNS and Neurology
Antipsychotics, antidepressants, antiepileptics, oral MS disease-modifying therapies and Parkinson's medications used as active comparators in neuroscience trials.
Cold Chain Capability
Temperature control
for 2-8°C and room temperature.

Modern clinical trial portfolios increasingly involve temperature-sensitive UK-licensed medicines with strict temperature requirements. Temperature-sensitive medicines are shipped at 2-8°C with a temperature logger fitted, handled by the contract storage site and forwarder.

Any excursion outside the labelled storage range is reported to the sponsor, and disposition of any affected product is the sponsor's decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Supply to Trial Sponsors, Explained

Common questions from sponsor supply leads, CRO sourcing managers and clinical research investigators.

What is an Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP)?
An IMP is a pharmaceutical form of an active ingredient or placebo being tested or used as a reference in a clinical trial, including products with a marketing authorisation when used in a way different from the authorised form. Euro Biom supplies commercially packed UK-licensed product to the sponsor's licensed recipient. It does not make or certify IMPs.
How quickly can you source comparator drugs?
For commonly stocked branded comparators, supply timing is confirmed at quotation. For complex requirements such as discontinued brands or specific batch matching, we provide an honest indicative timeline at the feasibility stage. Same-day response on every brief.
Do you supply blinded or randomised trial kits?
No. Blinded over-encapsulation, matched placebo and randomised kit assembly are investigational medicinal product activities that need an MHRA MIA(IMP) licence, which Euro Biom does not hold. We source the UK-licensed comparator and supply it, with its documentation, to the sponsor's nominated MIA(IMP)-licensed packager, who carries out those steps.
Which regulatory frameworks apply to your trial supply?
MHRA WDA(H) 59239, UK GDP, Human Medicines Regulations 2012. Sponsors and CROs hold their own Clinical Trial Authorisations under MHRA frameworks, EU CTR 536/2014 and US FDA IND requirements where relevant. We supply within those frameworks; we do not act as the sponsor.
Can you supply comparators internationally?
Yes. We source UK-licensed product and ship to the sponsor's licensed recipient in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. We arrange UK export documents and 2-8°C shipping with specialist carriers, and keep GDP chain-of-custody records.
What documentation comes with each shipment?
Manufacturer batch records where available, chain of custody, temperature monitoring data where required, packing lists and UK export documentation, with a manufacturer Certificate of Analysis where one is made available. Provided to support sponsor and CRO records.
